Effects of Ginseng-Extract on the Plasma Membrane and Cell Organelle(Microtubule)

Abstract
This morphological studies were performed to find out the effect of ginseng alcohol extract on the mast cell by inverted microscope.
Normal or sensitized peritoneal mast cell from rats were observed to extrude secretory granules when exposed to compound 48/80(2ug/ml) and antigen(50%), which are known as forceful factor of degranulation by membrane fusion and transmembrane fluxes of calcium.
At the same time, the response of the cell to compound 48/80, antigen and deformation of mast cell to colchicine, microtubule depolymerizer, were observed under the influence of giir¡©seng extract.
The following conclusion were obtained.
1. Extrusion of secretory granules in mast cells failed to take place after addition of ginseng alcohol extract(30mg%) to Locke solution and even exposure to the extract for 1 hour without effect.
2. Response of extrusion of granules to compound 48/80 and antigen was abolished when the isolated mast cell was pretreated with ginseng extract.
3. Colchicine(10-5M) alone did not cause extrusion of granules with the exception of various morphological changes of mast cells. But the cells which was pretreated with ginseng showed normal form without deformation 2 hour after addition of colchicine.
From the above results it is suggested that ginseng alcoholl extract may prevent granule extrusion by compound 48/80 or antigen and deformation of mast cell by colchicine indicated that the extract may play some roles in membrane protector and in prevention factor of microtubule depolymerization.
